Silmar Group and BM Group sign agreement to build 30 MW of new photovoltaic plants
BORGO CHIESE, 04.03.2025 – Silmar Group has signed an agreement with BM Group for the construction of 30 MW of new photovoltaic plants that will be built in Northern Italy. This ambitious project represents a further step towards energy neutrality and environmental sustainability, strengthening Silmar Group’s commitment in the energy transition.
With 30 active production sites in more than 100 global markets, the Silmar Group confirms its vision oriented towards innovation and synergy between its industrial entities. The energy produced by the plants, amounting to approximately 42,000 MWh/year, will be entirely destined for the needs of the group’s companies, contributing significantly to the reduction of CO₂ emissions.
The plants will use solar tracking technology, optimising energy production and improving overall efficiency. In addition, an innovative system will be implemented to protect against extreme weather events, such as hail and wind, ensuring maximum safety and reliability of the plants over time.
This project represents a further step taken by the Silmar Group on the path towards a more sustainable industry, confirming the Group’s concrete commitment to a more efficient and environmentally friendly future.
Luca Festi, BM Group’s Chief Financial Officer, comments: “Over the past two years, BM Group has demonstrated foresight and strategic capability in expanding its portfolio of services for the energy transition, supporting the industry on the path to decarbonisation through dedicated companies and targeted partnerships. Polytec Development, an established BM Group company specialising in the authorisation of photovoltaic plants, oversaw the development of the project. The construction of the plants will be entrusted to Nyox (a company that is also part of BM Group and co-participated by Edison Next), which will take care of the executive design, construction and maintenance”.
Angelo Curnis, Managing Director of Polytec Development: “Today’s result is a reflection of the unwavering commitment and passion that BM Group instils in every sector in which it operates. The shared vision and goal-oriented strategic approach have been fundamental in consolidating Polytec Development as a leader in the authorisation sector for photovoltaic systems. The completion of this important agreement with Silmar Group is a significant confirmation of our energy transition and decarbonisation strategy”.
Sandro Dainesi, Raffmetal’s Managing Director and Purchasing Director, emphasises the importance of the initiative: “This project represents a great step forward in our journey towards sustainability and a concrete sign towards decarbonisation, in line with the European Green Deal goals. The significant reduction in CO₂ emissions is reflected in the production of increasingly sustainable materials with a low carbon footprint. The result of this work is the fruit of an important synergy between the companies of the Silmar Group, which have worked together with determination to achieve this goal”.
Gianpaolo Beretta, Director and Chief Financial Officer of Valsir, highlights the value and long-term vision of the operation: “Thanks to a hedging system and the self-production of green energy, we have been able to fix the price of energy, guaranteeing greater economic-financial stability in a market context characterised by strong instability and repeated fluctuations in energy prices. This enables us to look to the future with greater serenity, ensuring the Silmar Group’s ability to proactively respond to future challenges. This strategy confirms the long-term vision of the Group, which continues to invest in innovative solutions to ensure economic solidity and sustainable growth”.
The agreement was officially signed on February 25th, in the presence of Gianpaolo Beretta, Director and Chief Financial Officer of Valsir, Sandro Dainesi Managing Director and Purchasing Director of Raffmetal Spa both companies belonging to Silmar Group, Angelo Curnis (Managing Director of Polytec Development, BM Group), Luca Festi (Chief Financial Officer of BM Group) and Mirko Bottini (President of BM Group).
