Developed <\/span>on <\/span>a <\/span>disused <\/span>industrial <\/span>site, <\/span>H2_POLYTECH <\/span>is <\/span>among <\/span>the <\/span>projects <\/span>selected <\/span>under <\/span>the <\/span>call <\/span>for <\/span>proposals <\/span>launched <\/span>by <\/span>the <\/span>Autonomous <\/span>Province <\/span>of <\/span>Trento <\/span>for <\/span>the <\/span>construction <\/span>of <\/span>green <\/span>hydrogen <\/span>production <\/span>plants <\/span>in <\/span>former <\/span>industrial <\/span>areas. <\/span>The <\/span>initiative <\/span>is <\/span>funded <\/span>under <\/span>Italy’s <\/span>National <\/span>Recovery <\/span>and <\/span>Resilience <\/span>Plan <\/span>(PNRR), <\/span>Mission <\/span>2 <\/span>\u201cGreen <\/span>Revolution <\/span>and <\/span>Ecological <\/span>Transition\u201d, <\/span>Component <\/span>2 <\/span>\u201cRenewable <\/span>Energy, <\/span>Hydrogen, <\/span>Grid <\/span>and <\/span>Sustainable <\/span>Mobility\u201d, <\/span>Investment <\/span>3.1 <\/span>\u201cProduction <\/span>in <\/span>Disused <\/span>Industrial <\/span>Areas\u201d, <\/span>financed <\/span>by <\/span>the <\/span>European <\/span>Union <\/span>\u2013 <\/span>Next <\/span>Generation <\/span>EU.<\/span><\/p>\n

Storo (Trento, Italy), 22 October 2026.<\/strong><\/em> The <\/span>inauguration <\/span>ceremony <\/span>of <\/span>H2_POLYTECH, <\/span>a <\/span>green <\/span>hydrogen <\/span>production <\/span>project <\/span>promoted <\/span>by <\/span>Polytec <\/span>Energy <\/span>S.r.l. <\/span>and <\/span>BM <\/span>Group <\/span>Holding <\/span>S.p.A., <\/span>took <\/span>place <\/span>at <\/span>the <\/span>industrial <\/span>site <\/span>in <\/span>Storo.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>plant <\/span>integrates <\/span>a <\/span>1 <\/span>MW <\/span>PEM <\/span>electrolyser <\/span>with <\/span>approximately <\/span>4.7 <\/span>MWp <\/span>of <\/span>installed <\/span>photovoltaic <\/span>capacity. <\/span>The <\/span>investment <\/span>combines <\/span>technological <\/span>innovation <\/span>with <\/span>the <\/span>energy <\/span>transition <\/span>of <\/span>the <\/span>industrial <\/span>sector, <\/span>while <\/span>enhancing <\/span>the <\/span>Giudicarie <\/span>area’s <\/span>resources <\/span>and <\/span>local <\/span>entrepreneurial <\/span>expertise.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>energy <\/span>system <\/span>was <\/span>designed <\/span>to <\/span>make <\/span>use <\/span>of <\/span>existing <\/span>surfaces <\/span>and <\/span>areas, <\/span>including <\/span>industrial <\/span>rooftops, <\/span>dedicated <\/span>canopies, <\/span>an <\/span>exhausted <\/span>quarry <\/span>and <\/span>an <\/span>area <\/span>previously <\/span>used <\/span>for <\/span>processing <\/span>extracted <\/span>materials <\/span>and <\/span>recovering <\/span>inert <\/span>materials. <\/span>This <\/span>design <\/span>approach <\/span>combines <\/span>energy <\/span>production, <\/span>the <\/span>regeneration <\/span>of <\/span>disused <\/span>spaces <\/span>and <\/span>consideration <\/span>for <\/span>the <\/span>surrounding <\/span>environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another <\/span>distinctive <\/span>feature <\/span>is <\/span>the <\/span>possibility <\/span>of <\/span>producing <\/span>and <\/span>using <\/span>hydrogen <\/span>close <\/span>to <\/span>industrial <\/span>operations, <\/span>reducing <\/span>transportation <\/span>requirements <\/span>and <\/span>facilitating <\/span>integration <\/span>with <\/span>the <\/span>production <\/span>processes <\/span>of <\/span>end-user <\/span>companies.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>event <\/span>brought <\/span>together <\/span>representatives <\/span>of <\/span>provincial <\/span>and <\/span>local <\/span>institutions, <\/span>public <\/span>authorities, <\/span>industrial <\/span>leaders, <\/span>local <\/span>businesses, <\/span>technology <\/span>partners <\/span>and <\/span>professionals <\/span>involved <\/span>in <\/span>the <\/span>project’s <\/span>development.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moderated <\/span>by <\/span>journalist <\/span>Erminia <\/span>Voccia, <\/span>the <\/span>ceremony <\/span>opened <\/span>with <\/span>institutional <\/span>addresses <\/span>and <\/span>a <\/span>written <\/span>message <\/span>from <\/span>Italy’s <\/span>Minister <\/span>for <\/span>the <\/span>Environment <\/span>and <\/span>Energy <\/span>Security, <\/span>Gilberto <\/span>Pichetto <\/span>Fratin. <\/span>It <\/span>then <\/span>continued <\/span>with <\/span>contributions <\/span>from <\/span>institutional <\/span>and <\/span>industrial <\/span>representatives <\/span>and <\/span>the <\/span>traditional <\/span>ribbon-cutting <\/span>ceremony.<\/span><\/p>\n

Francesco Bettoni, Sole Director of Polytec Energy S.r.l. and CEO of BM Group Holding <\/strong>S.p.A.<\/strong>, <\/span>opened <\/span>the <\/span>proceedings <\/span>by <\/span>placing <\/span>the <\/span>project <\/span>within <\/span>BM <\/span>Group’s <\/span>broader <\/span>development <\/span>strategy.<\/span><\/p>\n

In <\/span>his <\/span>address, <\/span>the <\/span>Mayor of Storo, Nicola <\/strong>Zontini<\/strong>, <\/span>highlighted <\/span>the <\/span>significance <\/span>of <\/span>the <\/span>initiative <\/span>for <\/span>a <\/span>community <\/span>that <\/span>has <\/span>successfully <\/span>navigated <\/span>major <\/span>industrial <\/span>and <\/span>employment-related <\/span>changes, <\/span>creating <\/span>new <\/span>opportunities <\/span>through <\/span>the <\/span>investment <\/span>capacity <\/span>of <\/span>local <\/span>entrepreneurs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Storo, <\/span>a <\/span>municipality <\/span>of <\/span>approximately <\/span>4,500 <\/span>inhabitants, <\/span>is <\/span>now <\/span>an <\/span>example <\/span>of <\/span>industrial <\/span>vitality, <\/span>with <\/span>a <\/span>manufacturing <\/span>and <\/span>artisan <\/span>business <\/span>network <\/span>that <\/span>makes <\/span>a <\/span>significant <\/span>contribution <\/span>to <\/span>local <\/span>employment.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Storo is a border territory, but above all it is a community that knows how to do business, thanks to forward-thinking people who have invested and created new opportunities. In the early 2000s, the industrial area experienced a severe employment crisis following the departure of several multinational companies. Today, thanks to the commitment of local entrepreneurs, the area has regained momentum, achieving significant employment levels relative to the size of our community. The inauguration of H2_POLYTECH is a source of pride for Storo. We thank Polytec, BM Group and all their collaborators for choosing our municipality for a project that combines innovation, industrial development and environmental responsibility. The construction of the plant has made it possible to regenerate disused industrial and quarry areas, introduce new technology for producing hydrogen from renewable sources and develop professional expertise locally. As a municipal administration, we strongly believe in industrial, artisan and economic development, and we are convinced that collaboration with businesses is essential to supporting peripheral areas as well. We will continue to stand alongside entrepreneurs who choose to invest here, helping to create jobs, opportunities and favourable conditions for the growth of our community.”<\/em><\/p>\n

The <\/span>representatives <\/span>of <\/span>the <\/span>Autonomous <\/span>Province <\/span>of <\/span>Trento <\/span>attending <\/span>the <\/span>ceremony <\/span>also <\/span>emphasised <\/span>the <\/span>initiative’s <\/span>value <\/span>in <\/span>terms <\/span>of <\/span>economic <\/span>development, <\/span>energy <\/span>transition <\/span>and <\/span>the <\/span>local <\/span>industrial <\/span>system’s <\/span>ability <\/span>to <\/span>embrace <\/span>innovative <\/span>technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Achille <\/strong><\/span>Spinelli, Provincial Councillor for Economic Development, Labour, Family, Universities and <\/strong>Research<\/strong>, <\/span>serving <\/span>as <\/span>Vice-President <\/span>of <\/span>the <\/span>Province, <\/span>stressed <\/span>the <\/span>importance <\/span>of <\/span>bringing <\/span>projects <\/span>to <\/span>completion <\/span>that <\/span>translate <\/span>innovation <\/span>and <\/span>sustainability <\/span>objectives <\/span>into <\/span>tangible <\/span>results. <\/span>He <\/span>also <\/span>highlighted <\/span>the <\/span>value <\/span>of <\/span>cooperation <\/span>between <\/span>industry <\/span>and <\/span>institutions <\/span>in <\/span>strengthening <\/span>the <\/span>territory’s <\/span>competitiveness.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mattia Gottardi, Provincial Councillor for Urban Planning, Energy, Transport, Sport and Protected <\/strong>Areas<\/strong>, <\/span>described <\/span>the <\/span>event <\/span>as <\/span>a <\/span>moment <\/span>of <\/span>satisfaction <\/span>and <\/span>celebration <\/span>for <\/span>the <\/span>community, <\/span>emphasising <\/span>the <\/span>ability <\/span>to <\/span>combine <\/span>industrial <\/span>vision <\/span>with <\/span>practical <\/span>implementation <\/span>and <\/span>value <\/span>creation.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>project <\/span>focuses <\/span>on <\/span>energy <\/span>flexibility <\/span>management <\/span>and <\/span>is <\/span>being <\/span>developed <\/span>with <\/span>the <\/span>involvement <\/span>of <\/span>Storo, <\/span>local <\/span>partners <\/span>and <\/span>the <\/span>area’s <\/span>electricity <\/span>distributor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lieutenant Giorgio <\/strong>Cecchini<\/strong>, <\/span>a <\/span>technical <\/span>officer <\/span>in <\/span>the <\/span>Italian <\/span>Ministry <\/span>of <\/span>Defence’s <\/span>Engineer <\/span>Corps <\/span>Reserve, <\/span>shared <\/span>his <\/span>perspective <\/span>on <\/span>enabling <\/span>technologies <\/span>and <\/span>technological <\/span>sovereignty <\/span>in <\/span>the <\/span>context <\/span>of <\/span>the <\/span>energy <\/span>transition, <\/span>highlighting <\/span>the <\/span>strategic <\/span>importance <\/span>of <\/span>national <\/span>expertise <\/span>and <\/span>industrial <\/span>capabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n
