The long-standing collaboration between Tenova and Polytec has become a benchmark example of how complementary industrial expertise can integrate effectively: on one side, Tenova’s global experience as a partner for the development of sustainable, innovative, and reliable solutions for the metallurgical industry; on the other, Polytec’s know-how in industrial automation and robotics for highly complex processes. Today, this synergy is renewed through a new project in which Polytec will supply Tenova with automation panels, the electrical part, and advanced robotic solutions for the EAF and the refining area.
Specifically, Polytec will provide complete automation systems to support the new EAF, including:
- Motor Control Center (MCC), for managing, protecting, and monitoring the plant’s motors;
- Power Center, the core of power distribution;
- Power factor correction system, essential to improve energy efficiency and network quality during the most critical melting phases.
The project also includes Polytec’s top-of-the-line robots, designed to perform essential steelmaking operations automatically and safely:
- PolySAMPLE EAF with PolyEYE tool, a robot for sampling and measurement in the electric arc furnace, equipped with camera tools for internal visual inspection;
- PolyEBT, a robot dedicated to EBT opening and cleaning;
- Two PolySAMPLE LF Hydris, custom solutions for the refining area (LF, VOD, RH) which, in addition to standard sampling and measurement tasks, also perform hydrogen measurement.
Omar Bazzoli, Chief Sales Officer & Member of the Executive Committee, stated: “Our partnership with Tenova grows stronger every year. We are two companies with a strong focus on technological research and development, constantly committed to offering end users the best possible technological solution. Our ability to jointly tackle complex projects that integrate equipment, automation, and robotics is a concrete example of the growth path we have undertaken.”
This supply is part of a broader decarbonization project aimed at reducing CO₂ emissions and producing sustainable steel that Tenova will carry out for Tata Steel UK. It further reinforces the role of both Tenova and Polytec in building a digitalized, more efficient, safer, and more sustainable steel industry.
